Accommodations in Stockholm
All tourists who have already been to Scandinavia know that it’s definitely not the most affordable place in the world. That is why when we are talking about where to stay Stockholm we should say that there are several types of accommodations in Stockholm – cheaper hostels, medium hotels and luxurious hotels and apartments.
Student’s dream
Well, Sheraton, Scandic or Radisson are hardly good places to stay for students or for thrifty travelers. Such people are usually not interested in luxury – they feel absolutely OK with only Stockholm b&b. Generally students and people who don’t want to pay much look for hostels. There are many great hostels in Stockholm, however we suggest that you also check available hotels.
There are dozens of small unusual hotels made in that charming Swedish style. The best thing about them is that sometimes they have really tempting offers like seasonal offers and discounts. Finally, it’s much better to find a room in such an authentic hotel than to stay in a boring hostel full of noisy meanies.
Live in a ship!
Could you imagine that a cheap accommodation in Stockholm can be found not on the land but in the water? Right, that’s why people often call Stockholm “Northern Venetia”. It’s very convenient to stay in a ship since basically all ships are located in very interesting parts of the city. There are both affordable hotels and hostels in such ships beginning with 20 Euros for a bed in dorms.
Experienced tourists often claim that staying in is actually much cheaper and better than in any “land hotel”. According to their words, the ships are basically staying near central part of the city. It means that you will not only be living in Stockholm in a cool place but also have all main attraction sites right near.
Be a Swedish
Another option is to rent an apartment or even a house. That’s relatively expensive choice, but you should remember that average pension in Sweden is nearly the highest in the world. It means that local people feel well with such prices, but tourists are usually disappointed.
A great solution would be to find a small house located far from the city center. It will let you save some decent money and see how people in residential districts live. That’s a great experience too. You will be able to compare it to the touristic part of Stockholm too.
Renting a house or an apartment can be the most interesting solution for the people who have already been to Stockholm and seen its points of interest. Each city has two sides and Stockholm is not exclusion here. If you wish to get the full picture – live among local people but not among tourists.
Luxury and comfort
Finally, there is one more segment of tourists. They are the people who prefer total comfort in everything. If you need to have a great bed, a big and clean bathroom and tasty breakfasts and dinners – choose a hotel. There are great hotels of nearly all world players like Sheraton and Radisson. Additionally you could eye up some local hotel chain. Moreover, you will see some single hotels which are much more stylish and much more Swedish.
Grand Hotel is probably the best place where a wealthy tourist could stay since this hotel is situated right in the very heart of the Swedish capital. All big museums, all great views and all cool bars and clubs are within walking distance which is really convenient. But be ready for really high prices – they can be even higher that in the majority of other Western European capitals.
Find your couch
When speaking about bed and breakfast in Stockholm we all start thinking about hotels, hostels and rental apartments. However, there is another way to find a place for sociable people – a service called Couchsurfing. There you will see hundreds of people from different countries and cities including Stockholm who are inviting tourists to stay. All you need to do is to register in the service, find such a person and contact him or her via website private chat. It will be the most affordable and – if you like meeting new people – most fascinating way to explore Stockholm.
