Christmas in Stockholm
Stockholm is a city which cannot be compared to others. Snowy winter turns the capital of Sweden into an incredibly fantastic town. Stockholm Old Town looks great all the time, however in winter it becomes incredibly charming. It possesses its own inimitable spirit with its handmade souvenirs, marketplace, delicious chestnuts and of course, glogg.
Bake your Christmas bread
There is a famous place in Stockholm called Skansen. Since 1891 Skansen has remained the most amusing open-air museum in entire Scandinavia. All types of local architecture can be found here. One more great thing is that guests can get inside of most of the old buildings. You just need to come in the last evening before Christmas and see yourself all those old bakeries, forging shops and post offices.
It the late December they hold a great Christmas market in Skansen. If you wish to feel the winter ambience in Stockholm – come here. You don’t need to purchase anything if you don’t really like shopping. You could try to bake a fresh bread instead. Looks challenging, doesn’t it?
Hunders of tourists come to the market in Skansen every day. It means that you should be ready for a lot of people and have patience.
When non-shoppers like shopping
You will quickly become a real shopper if you visit Stureplan square. Buying is actually not the best part of it. The main pleasure is in going around and finding unusual things. It’s really worth coming to Stureplan before Christmas. One will never find such a site with such a Scandinavian atmosphere in any other part of the planet.
If you feel exhausted of doing shopping – go to a great skating rink located not far from the market. Foreign guests love that ice-skating rink and often go there. Thus if you feel like meeting new friends it can be an ideal place for that.
Family fare
Visitors of all ages will highly appreciate Stockholm museums. However, you can find a lot of “family attractions”. Stockholm circus would be a great choice. Great performers will prepare something really exciting. Your children will have really much fun! Kids like exciting shows and they will love Stockholm circus.
One more pleasant thing is ferry. You can go to this tour near the Opera and then go to one of small amusing islands. However, please remember that severe wind is not a good weather for sea trips. But even if you are cold you can always ask the employees for a thick and incredibly cozy buck skin. But if the weather is nice and it doesn’t snow you will see really memorable views of winter Stockholm.
Fun for everyone
Stockholm has a short light day in early winter and sometimes the weather becomes just unbearable. Even if the temperature seems to be bearable the piercing wind can spoil everything. Then it’s better to look for an indoor kind of activity.
Young travelers quite often recommend visiting local escape rooms saying their nice design and plot. Check Questrooms, Exit Games and other sites like that. There are nearly three dozens of such rooms here in Stockholm!
Afternoon or evening could be devoted to the Royal Opera or the National Museum. Nightlife in Stockholm is one more great tourists’ attraction. The old part of Stockholm is full of night clubs and bars. Swedish clubs and bars look almost the same like in other Europe. The prices can seem rather high, but anyway local beer shoul be tried. Nightlife in Stockholm is really fantastic. All you need to do is to go out and go along the streets. It’s not a big deal to find a nice place to stay.
Picturesque view of the capital
Globe-shaped Sports Center is another attraction of Stockholm. There is no other ball in the world larger than that. In addition, you could enjoy a great view from the Sports Center viewing platform. The revolving deck moves around the Center and gets to the height of 130 meters! The Stockholm view from there is really breathtaking.
Don’t hesitate and choose Stockholm as your Christmas holidays destination!
