Christmas in the fairy tale
Speaking about the most attractive capitals Stockholm comes to mind first. Winter Stockholm has a look of a piece belonging to a fairytale reality. By some reason the old town of Stockholm looks much more interesting in winter than in summer. It has its own unmatched atmosphere with its market, handmade souvenirs, tasty chestnuts and glogg.
Turn into a baker
There is a great place in Stockholm called Skansen. Since 1891 Skansen has remained the most amusing open-air museum in Scandinavia. You can see all sorts of Swedish architecture there. Another awesome thing is that guests can go inside of most of those old buildings. Bakeries, schools, forges and post offices are the most charming in the last pre-Christmas evening when you can enter them and join funny competitions.
It the second half of December there is a nice Christmas market in Skansen. One couldn’t imagine winter Stockholm tourism without this fabulous place. In case if you are not a shopping fan you can, let’s say, try your hands in baking some bread using the 19th century equipment. Challenging enough, isn’t it?
Skansen market gathers several hundreds of visitors daily. Patience will help you a lot since there will probably be queues, although it’s still definitely worth coming.
Shopping for everyone
Stureplan square is an exciting touristic site with fabulous market. They say that the pleasure is not about the things you buy but to the shopping itself. It’s really a great plan to visit to Stureplan before Christmas. There is no better place in the world that preserves such a Scandinavian spirit.
If you feel tired of doing shopping – check out a great skating rink located not far away. The rink visitors are typically foreign tourists. Thus if you feel like meeting new friends it’s going to be a perfect place to do it.
Family entertainment
Without a doubt, Stockholm museums are a very good choice for people of all ages. Anyway, there are some activities mainly oriented on families with children. Stockholm circus could be an awesome choice. Great artists will prepare something incredibly amusing. Don’t worry, your kids will not be disappointed! Children like exciting performances so they will like Stockholm circus.
There are also tours on ferry. Find a ferry near the Opera and go for a fantastic tour around the see area. However, please remember that severe wind is not a suitable weather for taking sea trips. There are thick and warm buck skins on a ferry for those who are cold. If the weather is still and it’s not snowing you will enjoy really unforgettable views of winter Sweden.
Have fun in Stockholm!
Stockholm has a short daylight in December and sometimes the weather is simply unbearable. Even if the temperature looks OK the wind can ruin all plans. Wind is something that can make you give up and choose some indoor activities.
Young travelers often recommend going to local escape rooms saying that they have nice design and plot. You can check Questrooms, Exit Games and other sites like that. Experienced escapers may find more than two dozens of rooms like this!
Local museums and Royal Opera perfectly suit for an afternoon or evening. Stockholm nightlife is one more amusing attraction for all the tourists. The old part of Stockholm is just full of clubs and bars. As a matter of fact most of Stockholm pubs and bars could be compared to the European counterparts. The prices can be rather high, however local beer is worth tasting. Stormy nightlife is another remarkable characteristic of the capital of Sweden. Great bars and clubs can be found in any part of city center. It’s not a big deal to find a nice place to stay.
Enjoy a great view of Stockholm
The Sports Center in Stockholm has the shape of a large globe. Actually, it’s the biggest ball in the world. It makes it a very interesting place to visit especially because it has an outstanding viewing point. The revolving deck moves around the Center and gets to the height of 130 meters! The Stockholm view from there is really breathtaking.
There are many other exciting attractions in Stockholm – come here for Christmas and check them out!
